I had the same thing happen to me for a $5 app I didn't even want. They told me to turn on the shopping cart...I was on iPad and there is no shopping cart...but there should be one.

With an iPad they told you to turn in the shopping cart? The shopping cart hasn't existed (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1915?viewlocale=en_US) since iTunes 9: "Note: With iTunes 9.0 or later, only 1-click purchasing is available." They recommend the wish list instead, but that's much less convenient--and you have to do add things yourself rather than having them automatically go there instead of purchasing them.

This is great but I do have a question..
Since it's bluetooth and Apple says it works within 30 ft.What happens if you're in a starbucks and other people have bluetooth turned on ?
Will they be able to "hack" your Mighty Mouse?

You need to read up on how Bluetooth pairing works. The short answer is this doesn't happen. It'd be a slightly pointless protocol if the above could happen.

    Thanks, just saw it.

Kind of surprised it's such a late thing... doesn't Apple tend to do events at 10 AM, not 10 PM? (I guess it's still only 7 PM on their coast... still, isn't it time to go home by now for their employees?)

    Router, firewall I feel OK.

I hate to tell you this, but they are really no help when it comes to spyware. I don't know what you were referring to there, but with adware/spyware they won't help you one bit. Adware comes mostly through port 80, which is the port the internet comes through. So if you want, you can set your router/firewall to block port 80, but then you don't have any internet.

That being said, someone could figure out how to get around a firewall. As with any software based firewall, there are vulnerabilities in it, even the OS X one. A router (hardware based), well, thats a little different.

But there are things Apple could do to make OS X more secure. Hopefully Leopard will patch a bunch of holes and make it even harder for adware and anything else to get in. Then release patches for Panther/Tiger. They've done this in the past with Tiger security enhancements and then releasing a patch for Panther.

I believe SecurityWorks (or whatever they're called), works with Apple now instead of against them to aid in finding "holes" in the system. This is the way it should be. They should be hiring people/companies to find holes in the OS and to report them exclusively to Apple ONLY so they can be fixed.

We Mac users are way to secure with ourselves and one day its going to bite us in the butt bigtime. A lot of us throw the talk to the hand up when OS X starts getting bashed about its insecurity. This is a bad thing and some of us need to shape up. These very people will be the first to bitch and complain about their Mac getting spyware and/or viruses when it happens. And of course, its all Apple's fault!

If you want to argue that most "Chefs" that love food and make great foods full of flavors and preparation are fat, look really closely at chefs. Most are not fat at all, I'd say the proportion is the same as in the normal population.
I concur 100%. I work as a chef and I was slightly underweight last time I checked. In the two kitchens I work in, no-one is overweight. One girl looks a bit plump, but I doubt very much she is overweight as she is a tall girl. Then again... I don't really love food. Being a chef is just a job for me.

One thing I'm surprised we haven't gone into is the fact that there are starving kids in Africa, and this gluttonous woman is unnecessary gorging food that could really be going to someone else who needs it more. It isn't as if she needs 30k calories to survive.

Has that pop-up video flavor, doesn't it??? Stylin...

I wish you could change the color or shape of the pop-up.
Or, if you could use Independent ResUI and have it zoom in on that portion of the web page where the word appears, but within the Safari web browser.

Or combine it with some core animation stuff and blacken the rest of the screen except for the Safari browser, and put red dots on the term each place it shows up like a laser pointer in a presentation

    That would be slick

Although I find the slider buttons pretty, I think these are just a step to touch-interface. It makes sense when you have to actually slide the button (with your fingers). But when using a mouse/trackpad, it is more logical to point at the option you want and the selection will slide to the requested option.
I think this will return when touch-based interface will make its entry.

Then it is an HD CONSOLE not an HD PLAYER. Player implies HD media.

I don't know about that. You should probably just ask the OP for clarification, it's possible you're just misunderstanding his choice of words.

Nintendo never sold any console at a loss.

Really? What's your source on that?

    Best comment on this thread!

    I agree!

As a few others have said, the software is where it's at. Apple knows this. I dont think it really matters when they come out with another iPhone. They've got an amazing device with the iPhone 4 that can run pretty much anything normal people throw at it. If they can update the software to correct the few flaws it does have, it's going to be the perfect phone and the 5 will just further refine that. Everyone should really be focused on the conference in June.

    I agree, mostly.

The next hardware advance will def have 4G, larger battery and A5.

To US its a big deal. It's a blow to the Al-Qaeda that doesn't exist anymore. The current one will still function just as it has for nearly a decade in its cell based way. If anything this will just piss off extremists. Don't think for a second some type of retaliation (most likely attacks in the Middle East) won't come about from this.

are you suggesting we give him a pass?

    Oh... I was right!

49 for a mouse. Wonderful. If this was a brand new design, with new features, never been done before, give me 2.

Sadly, Apple aren't exactly leading the way with mice, so they shouldn't be able to charge these prices!

That may be ok in iOS and on my iPad as it is easy to use with touch technology, but as more and more business professionals are adopting mac laptops, iMacs or Mac Pros - that is very unprofessional looking to be on a potential business computer. I know Apple wants to be uniform across devices and we are moving closer and closer to everything being iOS as the main operating system. But seriously, businesses will think that is not professional and we are going back to the non-uniform weird looking DOS-based application days. It is true, there is no uniforminality in the apps in the app store. It is having a consistent UI that made it easier for everyone to adopt Windows back in the day. Every application had the same looking and functionality in the GUI; so there was no learning curve.

That iCal may be easy to use, but is unprofessional looking for potential business computers. Also, many people use ical as it integrates so well with other applications. I still say combine Apple Mail, iCal, and address book into 1 application - so I do not have to have 3 apps open taking up screen space and using more resources. That is what we have in Windows and Linux.

    AND KEEP IT PROFESSIONAL LOOKING!

As from what people are posting on the new iCal and Apple Mail, I am afraid the OS is becoming less business intuitive, less functionality, less uniforminality among apps. Something that may hurt Apple more with trying to integrate into the business world.

With the old iCal, I can choose what events I want to see. I can have separate calendars for items, etc. I have several apps that have their own calendar in ical - which allows me turn on or off viewing them with a check box.

edit - Although I am looking forward to a uniformed iChat.

UGLY. I hope tey have an option to return it to the unified look of the rest of the OS. If not, I'm sure there will be a terminal hack to being some sense back to the UI.

'Microsoft's Zune - Long Term Effort'... yeah, in R&D. 3-5 years time for a product is crazy. The market wont want what they will have on offer in that time. Its like that origami or whatever it is. Something that cropped up on MR, and then disappeared. no one cares.
